BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -- Todd G. Relue, an Indiana University senior from Granger, Ind., has been selected by the university as a Wells Scholar. The scholarship, named in honor of the late IU Chancellor Herman B Wells, ranks among the most competitive and prestigious awards offered by any American university.
As a Wells Scholar, Relue will receive full tuition, fees and a living stipend for the remainder of his undergraduate studies on the IU Bloomington campus.
The Wells Scholar program also offers special seminars, an optional year of study abroad and support for a summer research project or internship. It emphasizes close interaction with faculty, academic and career advising, opportunities for community service and contact with distinguished visitors. Wells Scholars are selected for having demonstrated character, leadership and distinction, both inside and outside of the classroom.
Relue is completing majors in political science and communication and culture with a minor in psychology, and plans to attend either graduate or law school.
He is working on two honors theses. One thesis focuses on issues of war morality and the other explores war rhetoric. At IU, he has been named a Chancellors Scholar and he was awarded the MacDowell/Gilliam Scholarship by the Department of Communication and Culture. He was also invited to present one of his essays at the department's colloquium on Outstanding Undergraduate Essays.
An active member of the Indiana University Student Foundation, Relue has worked on several committees for the IUSF, including the Membership Development and Campus Relations and Scholarship Management committees, and the IUSF Taskforce subcommittees. This year, he will continue his work with the IUSF as a member of the Steering Committee.
Relue has served on the Read Center Judicial Board and he was an undergraduate teaching instructor for a course in the Department of Psychology.
He is a graduate of Homestead High School in Fort Wayne, Ind.
