IU to host Second Annual School of Continuing Studies Day at the statehouse

IU and Indiana Department of Workforce Development to visit statehouse on March 28

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
March 21, 2007

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -- Indiana University will host its Second Annual School of Continuing Studies Day at the Statehouse on March 28.

Daniel Callison, dean of the IU School of Continuing Studies

Representatives from the School of Continuing Studies and the Indiana Department of Workforce Development will visit the statehouse to educate legislators about the contributions the SCS and IDWD have made to the state's economic development efforts. A partnership between the two organizations has provided up-to-date training and professional development opportunities to thousands of Hoosiers.

This year's events will feature exhibits, a catered lunch and a noon awards ceremony that will honor various members of the state government for their collaborative work with the School of Continuing Studies. Three state government representatives will be recognized: Mark Hollman, IDWD director for Unemployment Insurance Modernization Business Transition and Training; William Miller, IDWD commissioner; and Andrew Penca, IDWD director for Career Services. The newly appointed SCS dean, Daniel Callison, will present the awards and describe how the school promotes educational and economic opportunities around the state.

The IU School of Continuing Studies was created in 1975 to respond to the educational needs of older, "nontraditional" students. The school and the campus divisions of continuing studies offer an associate and bachelor's degree in general studies, as well as hundreds of professional development and custom training opportunities.

The Second Annual School of Continuing Studies Day will take place from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The luncheon and recognition program will begin at 11:30 a.m. All activities will be held in the North Atrium.
