New ambulance station to open

Officials from Indiana University, the city of Bloomington and Bloomington Hospital will take part in a ribbon-cutting ceremony for a new ambulance station at 9 a.m. Friday (Nov. 15) at the facility on 7th and Bryan Street.

The station will serve as crew quarters and a climate-controlled garage for ambulance service for both the IU campus and the community. The cost of the building is $137,000. The building was designed by the University Architect's office and will be funded through IUs annual contribution to the ambulance service. It will be staffed by Bloomington Hospital Ambulance Service personnel.

"Indiana University is pleased to be a part of this unique partnership with city and county governments and the Bloomington Hospital in providing emergency medical assistance for our community. This new facility will provide comfortable quarters for the crews and a convenient site for ambulance service while blending in with the neighborhood," said Kirk White, IU special assistant for external relations.

The event will feature remarks from White; from Timothy Mayer, Bloomington city councilmember and coordinator for the Green Acres Neighborhood; from Sharon Stephens Brehm, chancellor of the IU Bloomington campus; and from Larry R. Bailey, chief operating officer of the Bloomington Hospital and Healthcare System.
