IU campuses open but adverse weather policy in effect

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
June 8, 2008

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -- All Indiana University campuses will be open for normal operations on Monday, June 9.

However, the university's employee policy for adverse weather will be in effect while flooding conditions remain in existence in the vicinity of university campuses.

"Employees who live in areas affected by flooding should act appropriately to ensure their personal safety and well-being," said Dan Rives, associate vice president for human resources. "We do not want our employees taking unnecessary risks to come to work. They should not try to drive over flooded roadways. Employees with flooded homes should contact human resources upon their return to work for special time-off instructions. We recognize that this is an extraordinary situation, and we want to provide as much assistance as we can."

Under the adverse weather policy, employees who are unable to safely travel to their place of work can use accrued time off to cover their absence, or they may take time off without pay. While advance notice requirements are waived, employees needing to take time off should contact their supervisor as soon as it is reasonable. With their supervisor's approval, they may also work later in the same work week to make up lost time.
