IU Soul Revue on tour in New York and Michigan

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -- The IU Soul Revue, a performance ensemble at Indiana University Bloomington, is on tour and will perform this week in New York, Buffalo and Detroit. The tour includes two performances that are open to the public.
Founded in 1971, the IU Soul Revue is one of three performance ensembles of IU's African American Arts Institute. Under director Tyron Cooper, the IU Soul Revue has become noted for its high energy, impeccable musicianship and soulful delivery. The concerts will feature a wide range of selections from the group's repertoire of traditional rhythm and blues, soul, funk and contemporary black popular music styles.
Over the last three decades, the IU Soul Revue has maintained its reputation as one of the finest collegiate popular music ensembles in America. IU Soul Revue performances feature original compositions, along with arrangements of works recorded by Stevie Wonder; Earth, Wind & Fire; Patti LaBelle; D'Angelo; Mary J. Blige and others.
The talents of the IU Soul Revue have not gone unnoticed. Michael J. Powell, producer of popular recording artists such as Anita Baker and Patti LaBelle, said of the ensemble, "I was pleasantly surprised at the cohesion of talent, professionalism and quality centered within the Soul Revue."
"The tour is an excellent opportunity to extend the Soul Revue's music to other communities, as well as to involve alumni and friends who are now located in these areas," said Charles Sykes, director of IUB's African American Arts Institute.
On Wednesday (March 19), the IU Soul Revue will perform at 7 p.m. in New York City's Harlem School of the Arts. The school is located at 645 St. Nicholas Ave. While in New York, IU students will have the chance to visit the World Trade Center Memorial and other sites of interest.
On Thursday (March 20) in Buffalo, N.Y., the IU Soul Revue will perform at 8 p.m. at Canisius College's Montante Cultural Center at 2001 Main St.
On Friday (March 21), the IU Soul Revue will perform for an audience that will include students and their parents at Osborn High School. After the performance, the IU students will visit the Motown Historical Museum.
