MEDIA ADVISORY: Student Move-In Day at IU

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -- Indiana University Bloomington Residence halls open at 8 a.m. Wednesday (Aug. 27) for Student Move-In Day, marking the beginning of Welcome Week 2008.
For media wishing to cover Move-In Day events, new students and parents will be available for interviews in the vicinity of McNutt, Briscoe and Foster residence halls at Fee Lane and 17th Street. IU administrators, including President Michael McRobbie and Provost and Executive Vice President Karen Hanson, will be on hand to greet students and their families in the same area.
Later in the day on Wednesday, President McRobbie and Provost Hanson will preside over the official freshman induction ceremonies at 3 p.m. and 5 p.m. in the IU Auditorium. The traditional Induction Picnic will follow each ceremony behind the Lilly Library and Woodburn Hall adjacent to the Auditorium.
Welcome Week events, scheduled through Sept. 3 (Wednesday), include programs to introduce new students to the wide variety of academic support and social activities available on the Bloomington campus.

CultureFest, Thursday (Aug. 28), IU Auditorium at 4:30 p.m.; event moves outside at 5:15 p.m. After academic orientation meetings earlier in the day, all students are invited to attend this event, designed to explore and celebrate the culture of Indiana University. Live music, food and and a variety of activities are scheduled.
Traditions and Spirit of IU, Friday (Aug. 29), Assembly Hall at 4:30 p.m. In preparation for the Saturday's home football game in Memorial Stadium with Western Kentucky (beginning at noon), freshmen will be introduced to the athletics traditions of IU. They'll learn the school fight song and be greeted by a Hoosier coach or two. Prize give-aways start when the doors open at 4 p.m. The public is invited.
FaithFest, Sunday (Aug. 31), Dunn Meadow, 1 p.m. A variety of religious groups welcome new students to campus and tell them about their activities. Free food, prizes and the chance to meet the unique and diverse religious groups on campus and in Bloomington.
New Student Service Day, Monday (Sept. 1), IMU's Whittenberger Auditorium, 1 p.m. This event matches new students with local service agencies for an afternoon of volunteer service throughout the Bloomington community. This event is designed to help students connect with their new "hometown."
