FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Oct. 1, 2008
BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -- The Indiana Memorial Union Board announced Wednesday (Oct. 1) that former U.S. Sen. and presidential candidate John Edwards will speak on Tuesday, Nov. 11, at 7 p.m. in the Indiana University Auditorium.
His lecture, coming only a week after the Nov. 4 presidential election, will focus on what the results mean for America's political and economic future. The lecture is free and open to the public and will be followed by a question-and-answer session.
"This is a hands-down win for IU students and Union Board," Union Board Lectures Director Andrew Dahlen said. "Just a week out from the election, IU students will ask one of this year's top presidential contenders for his thoughts on this historic election. When have IU students gotten the opportunity to interact with someone who was only a few thousand votes away from being the current vice president?"
Edwards will dissect the general election results and forecast how they will affect the state of political discourse, the American economy and the plight of working families. He will also weave stories from his experience running for president into his analysis, describing what it's like to be a major presidential candidate in today's accelerated political and media environment.
Union Board has a long history of bringing news-making political commentators to Bloomington. Recent speakers have included Sen. Bill Frist, Ann Coulter, Gen. Wesley Clark, Rev. Al Sharpton and Former Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Barak.
Edwards' lecture is co-sponsored by the Office of the Provost, the Residence Halls Association, IU College Democrats and Young Democrats of Indiana.
