"Due to today's rain showers and the possibility of additional rain in the forecast later today and this evening, I regret that we must announce the cancellation of the 2008 IU Bloomington Homecoming Parade and Pep Rally," said Mark E. Skirvin, senior director of outreach programs at the IU Alumni Association. "I want to thank our tremendous student volunteers who have done a great job all week with Homecoming related activities and events, including plans and preparations for tonight's Homecoming Parade. All together, nearly 1,000 alumni and students have already participated in a variety of Homecoming events this week."

Today's announcement does not affect other homecoming weekend activities on Saturday, which will include the 21st annual Homecoming Luncheon, the IU football game against Northwestern and a concert featuring the original members of Straight No Chaser. A "Hoosier Field of Dreams" has been the theme for the week of activities.

The luncheon will begin at 10 a.m. in the IU Alumni Association's new Hoosier Village, behind the DeVault Alumni Center, across from IU Assembly Hall on 17th Street. It costs $15 for IU Alumni Association members, $20 for nonmembers and $7.50 for children under the age of 12.

Online reservations for the luncheon at https://alumni.indiana.edu/reserve/index.php?r=110 will be accepted up to the time of the event. The Homecoming Luncheon is sponsored by the IU Foundation, Varsity Club, Hoosiers for Higher Education and the IUAA.

Kickoff for the Hoosiers game against the Wildcats will be at noon. Tickets can be purchased through the IU Athletics Ticket Office at 1-866-IUSPORTS. During pre-game and halftime ceremonies, the 2008 Homecoming king and queen will be introduced and trophies will be presented to the student teams that place first and second in various Homecoming competitions. The Marching Hundred alumni band and alumnae RedSteppers will perform, and 50-year I-Men will be honored.

Homecoming wraps up with a Homecoming Concert featuring 10 original members of the men's a cappella group Straight No Chaser. The concert is at 7:30 p.m., Oct. 25 (Saturday), at IU Auditorium. The concert comes three days before the release of the group's debut album with Atlantic Records, Holiday Spirits. Tickets for the concert, including an advance copy of Holiday Spirits, are $22.50. Tickets for the concert only are $16.50. Order tickets by calling 812-855-1103 or online at https://www.iuauditorium.com. The concert is sponsored by the IU Alumni Association and the IU Foundation.
