Three Jacobs School students win District Met Auditions

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -- Three Indiana University Jacobs School of Music students were named winners in the Indiana District competition of the Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions held on Jan. 10 at Indiana University's Musical Arts Center.

The three winners -- Jung Nan Yoon, soprano, student of Costanza Cuccaro; Ljubomir Puskaric, baritone, student of Robert Harrison; and Kiri Deonarine, soprano, student of Carol Vaness -- will advance to the Tri-State Regional Auditions Jan. 18 at the University of Cincinnati. The winners of that round will compete in the National Semi-Finals Feb. 15 at the Metropolitan Opera in New York, and the Grand Finals Concert will take place at the Met on Feb. 22.

Encouragement awards went to Stephanie Washington, soprano, student of Carol Vaness, and Siān Davies, soprano, student of Costanza Cuccaro.

Total prize money awarded in the Indiana District was $4,000.

Judges for this year's competition were Timothy O'Leary, general director of Opera Theatre of St. Louis; Jane Bunnell, mezzo-soprano; and Brian Zeger, artistic director of Juilliard, representing the Met.
