BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -- Indiana University President Michael A. McRobbie said today (Jan 18) he was deeply saddened to learn that former IU President Myles Brand is being treated for pancreatic cancer.
"I want Myles to know that there are a great many of us here at Indiana University, his friends and admirers, whose hearts will be close to him in the coming months as he deals with this ailment," McRobbie said. "Myles is a wonderful person who did many great things for IU, and now I hope we can be of support to him, his wife Peg, and his family as they face this challenge. I know all of us at IU will be hoping for success in his treatments and a full recovery."
Brand, who is now president of the National Collegiate Athletic Association, yesterday disclosed in an e-mail to NCAA employees that he will be undergoing treatment for pancreatic cancer over the next several months. Brand was president of Indiana University from 1994 to 2003.
