BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -- Three finalists for the vice president for research position at Indiana University will visit the Bloomington campus as well as Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis during the next two weeks. Finalists will meet with faculty, staff and representatives from IU's regional campuses. Following those visits, the university search committee that identified the finalists will meet again and make further recommendations to IU President Michael McRobbie.

The finalists and their campus visit dates are:

"We are delighted to be able to attract such an interesting and talented group of people to consider this opportunity at IU," said Michael Wade, distinguished professor of biology, associate vice provost for faculty and academic affairs, and chair of the search committee. The 16-member committee includes IU Bloomington and IUPUI faculty as well as a regional faculty representative from IU South Bend.

Espy has been at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln since 2005. She is also a professor of psychology and the director of the Developmental Cognitive Neuroscience Laboratory. Prior to her work at Nebraska she was a professor and director of the Center for Integrated Research in Cognitive and Neural Sciences at Southern Illinois University.

Fenwick has been at Tennessee since 2007 where he is also a professor of pathobiology. He served as vice president for research at Virginia Tech and as a professor of veterinary medicine from 2004-2007. He was also Chief Science Advisor for the U.S. Department of Agriculture from 2002-2004.

Rebar earned both his Ph.D. and D.V.M. at Purdue and was dean of the School of Veterinary Medicine from 1996-2005. He became interim senior associate vice president for research and interim executive director of Discovery Park in 2005 before being named to both positions in 2006.

More information on the search, including candidates' CVs, is available at https://www.indiana.edu/~vppp/recruitment/vpresearch.shtml

McRobbie appointed the search committee in January to identify and interview candidates for the position. The vice president for research will play a major role in the continued building of excellence in research at IU, working with various university offices, campus leadership and deans. The Office of Research Administration as well as the vice provost for research at IU Bloomington and vice chancellor for research at IUPUI will report to the vice president for research.

This position will subsume the research-related portfolios of two existing vice presidential positions -- those of the vice president for life sciences, Craig Brater, who is also dean of the IU School of Medicine, and the interim vice president for research administration, Ora Pescovitz, who leaves IU next month to become chief executive officer of the University of Michigan Health System.
