BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -- Tickets are on sale now for N.E.R.D., Indiana University's Welcome Week 2009 concert, presented by Indiana Memorial Union Board and Residence Halls Association Saturday, Aug. 29 at 8:00 p.m. at IU Auditorium. Proceeds benefit the Make-A-Wish Foundation.
N.E.R.D. broke into the music scene in 2001 as an American rock, funk and hip-hop group led by producers and songwriters Pharrell Williams and Chad Hugo, who together redefined the course of American hip-hop with their raw rhythms and use of live instruments. They later mixed in some R&B and began working with pop icons such as Justin Timerblake, Madonna, Brittney Spears, Jay-Z and Gwen Stefani.
N.E.R.D. joined Kanye West, Lupe Fiasco and Rihanna for the 2008 "Glow in the Dark Tour" and also released the album Seeing Sounds in 2008. With its blistering hip-hop and rock beats in songs such as "Everyone Nose (All the Girls Standing in the Line for the Bathroom)" and "Spaz," Seeing Sounds sold 80,000 copies in its first week and reached the Billboard 200 and the top 20 in seven countries.
Union Board Concerts Director Caitlyn Kuhs and RHA's Vice President for Programming Katherine Lambert said they are excited to partner together to bring N.E.R.D. to IU. "Union Board and RHA wanted to properly welcome the new students with a Welcome Week concert -- and we think that this exciting, dynamic group will do just that," said Kuhs.
