IU Bloomington to conduct emergency response exercise
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Sept. 25, 2009
BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -- At 1:30 p.m. Monday (Sept. 28), Indiana University emergency personnel will respond to a full-scale simulation of an incident that might include fire, chemical spills, biological incidents, flooding and/or gas inhalation. The setting for the scenario will be Jordan Hall.
There will be a simultaneous fire drill for the entire building, and once the building has been determined to have been evacuated properly, the word will be given for all to return to their rooms except those in a selected area. For the people who may not be able to return immediately to classrooms, offices and/or labs, the exercise may last a total of one-and-a-half to two hours.
During the exercise, onlookers may see emergency staff in protective gear and/or people playing the role of victims on stretchers or on the ground. There also could be fire trucks and other emergency vehicles involved.
