BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -- Bad breakup? An international traveling exhibition being installed at Indiana University's School of Fine Arts Gallery offers a new kind of therapy.

"The Museum of Broken Relationships," which was featured in the New York Times in February and has been featured on NPR, showcases an array of bad relationship relics from across the globe. Visitors to the installment at SoFA Gallery will be invited to add their own symbolic breakup objects to the collection.

"The Museum of Broken Relationships" opens at SoFA Gallery Friday, May 28, with a reception from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m., and continues through June 19. All events are free and open to the public.

Project creators Olinka Vistica and Drazen Grubisic will give a gallery talk Saturday, May 29, at 3 p.m. The two created "The Museum of Broken Relationships" in 2006 after ending their own romantic relationship. As they divvied up their possessions, they realized that some objects were laden with so much emotion, they were hard to give up or divide.

By helping the brokenhearted to give away objects closely associated with failed relationships, Vistica and Grubisic hope to help them let go of the relationships while allowing the objects to be preserved as "emotional history."

"This exhibit of artifacts from The Museum of Broken Relationships will allow the SoFA Gallery and the Bloomington to come together and participate in this international project," said Betsy Stirratt, director of the SoFA Gallery.
