New committee aims for greater efficiency at IU regional campuses
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Sept. 21, 2010
BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -- A newly formed committee has begun work on increasing efficiency at Indiana University's regional campuses, IU President Michael A. McRobbie announced today (Sept. 21).
"Indiana University's regional campuses allow us to offer educational opportunities to nearly every corner of the state and contribute heavily to economic development in the areas we serve," McRobbie said. "By working to increase efficiencies and eliminating duplication that accumulates over time in any large organization such as IU, we will position ourselves to make an even greater impact on the number of Hoosiers receiving high-quality degrees and regional economic development activities that are so vital to our state's prosperity."
In an effort to find savings and efficiencies, IU's new Regional Campus Expenditure Review Committee (ERC) will review activities that may be underperforming or have outlived their usefulness; opportunities for shared services and partnerships; and consolidation of similar services that exist on multiple campuses, McRobbie said.
IU East Chancellor Nasser Paydar is chairing the ERC, which will report to McRobbie and the Office of the Vice President for University Regional Affairs, Planning and Policy. The committee will also coordinate its efforts with related work in the Office of the Vice President and Chief Financial Officer.
"By sharing resources and forging partnerships across all campuses," Paydar said, "we will become even more efficient and be able to provide services to an even higher number of Hoosiers."
In addition to Paydar, members of the committee include:
- Laurie Antolovic, deputy chief financial officer, Office of the Vice President for Information Technology
- Donald Coffin, associate professor, School of Business and Economics, IU Northwest
- Louise Collins, associate professor of philosophy, IU South Bend
- Dan Dooley, vice chancellor, administration and finance, IU East
- Karen Gallatin, associate director of financial aid, IU Kokomo
- Marianne Milich, chief financial officer, IU Northwest
- Bill O'Donnell, vice chancellor for administrative and fiscal affairs, IU South Bend
- Janet C. Papiernik, associate professor of accounting, School of Business, IPFW
- Steve Sarratore, associate vice chancellor of academic affairs, IPFW
- Cathy Shea, professor, School of Education, IU Southeast
- John Stager, assistant professor, Business and Informatics, IU East
- Linda Wallace, dean, IU Kokomo School of Nursing
- Dana Wavle, vice chancellor for administrative affairs, IU Southeast
The formation of the new committee is the most recent step in an effort to develop and implement a distinct collective mission for IU's regional campuses. In March, McRobbie announced that Vice President for University Regional Affairs, Planning and Policy John Applegate would lead this initiative, which highlights the critical role the regional campuses play within the university and the state's higher education system.
The new committee is expected to present its recommendations to McRobbie and Applegate by early next year.
