BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -- A record 120 law schools will send representatives to the 2010 Indiana University Bloomington Law Day, the world's largest law school fair and an opportunity for students to meet with recruiters and learn first-hand about admission procedures and requirements.

The event, which will take place Oct. 29 at the Indiana Memorial Union, 900 E. Seventh St., is organized by the Health Professions and Prelaw Center at IU Bloomington. It includes:

With 120 law schools scheduled to participate -- more than half of the law schools in the United States -- the 2010 IU Law School Fair shatters the old record of 110 schools set last year. It will be the world's largest law fair for the sixth year in a row.

"Attendance at Law Day is crucial for students considering law school now or in the future," said Mac Francis, director of the Health Professions and Prelaw Center. "Students who attend find it an eye-opening experience. They typically leave encouraged and optimistic, often having learned about wonderful schools that they may not even have heard of before."

"It is critical for current applicants and juniors to attend," he added, "but freshmen and sophomores will receive an invaluable close-up and personal introduction to the realities of law school admission."

The Law School Admission Council estimates that there are about 3,000 students at IU Bloomington, from more than 53 majors, who are potentially interested in going to law school. Competition for admission remains extreme, and attendance at Law Day events can give students a competitive edge.

The Health Professions and Prelaw Center, a division of the Office of the Vice Provost for Undergraduate Education, provides pre-professional advising and services for students interested in pursuing careers in law, medicine and other health fields, assisting them throughout their undergraduate years to become well informed and well prepared about requirements for the careers.
