MacIntyre named director of media relations at Indiana University
BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -- Larry B. MacIntyre, a long-time journalist and most recently an aide to Sen. Richard Lugar (R-Ind.), is the new director of media relations for Indiana University.
In that role, he will serve as the primary spokesperson for the university and will also consult on issues management, crisis communications and other public and media relations issues. He will report to William Stephan, vice president for university relations and corporate partnerships.
"Larry is an experienced and accomplished journalist who will enhance our communications efforts," Stephan said. "We are particularly pleased that he will be joining our media relations team at IU."
For more than 25 years, MacIntyre was a reporter and editor at newspapers in Indiana and Michigan, including 14 years at the Indianapolis Star. At the Indianapolis Star, he was assistant editor of the editorial page, assistant city editor, Statehouse reporter and an editorial writer before leaving the paper in 2002.
Since August 2002, MacIntyre has been a legislative assistant to Lugar and has served as a liaison for the senator on issues relating to Indiana's military facilities, homeland security, telecommunications and technology.
He retired in 2000 with the rank of colonel from the U.S. Army Reserve after serving for 25 years. A logistician, he was called to active duty in 1990 for Operation Desert Storm and again in 1996 to support the U.S. peace-keeping mission in Bosnia.
MacIntyre graduated from the University of Colorado with a bachelor's degree in journalism and also studied at the U.S. Army Command and General Staff College.
