Pulitzer Prize-winning author Michael Chabon to deliver free public reading at IU Feb. 7

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -- Author Michael Chabon will give a free public reading at Indiana University Bloomington Feb. 7 at 5:30 p.m. in Fine Arts 015. The reading is sponsored by the College Arts and Humanities Institute.
Chabon is the author of numerous best-selling works of fiction and nonfiction. His first novel, The Mysteries of Pittsburgh (1988), was originally written for his master's thesis at University of California-Irvine; the novel became a New York Times bestseller and was made into a 2008 film. His novel Wonder Boys (1995), also a bestseller, was made into a critically acclaimed film starring Michael Douglas and Tobey Maguire.
The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier & Clay (2000), Chabon's novel on the lives of two World War II-era Jewish comic book artists, won the Pulitzer Prize for Fiction in 2001. Kavalier & Clay received the New York Society Library Prize for Fiction, the Bay Area Book Reviewers Award and the Commonwealth Club Gold Medal. The novel was selected by the American Library Association as one of the Notable Books of 2000 and was a finalist for the National Book Critics Circle Award, the PEN/Faulkner Award and the Los Angeles Times Book Prize.
His novella The Final Solution (2004) was awarded the 2005 National Jewish Book Award and also the 2003 Aga Khan Prize for Fiction by The Paris Review.
Chabon is the author of two collections of short stories, A Model World and Other Stories (1990) and Werewolves in Their Youth (1999). In 2002, he published his first young-adult novel, Summerland, which won the 2003 Mythopoeic Fantasy Award for Children's Literature. He has written articles, essays, screenplays and teleplays and edited The Best American Short Stories 2005.
His nonfiction bestseller Manhood for Amateurs: The Pleasures and Regrets of a Husband, Father, and Son (2009) details Chabon's experiences as a husband and father of four.

"He is one of the most accomplished and sought-after fiction authors writing in the English language, and his multifaceted artistic activity will serve many different sections of our community, from students and scholars of fine arts and literary issues to people interested in Jewish studies, history, philosophy and comic literature and art."
Chabon has lectured on literary topics throughout the world and has been invited to speak to the creative teams at Pixar Animation Studios and the employees of Industrial Light and Magic about fantasy and childhood and art of storytelling. Chabon recently accepted the position of chairman of the board of directors at the MacDowell Colony.
