FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Feb. 18, 2011

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -- Grammy Award-winning, multiplatinum recording artist and producer Lil Wayne is the official performer for Indiana University's 2011 Little 500 concert.

The event is co-sponsored by the Indiana Memorial Union Board and IU Auditorium and takes place in Assembly Hall (1001 E. 17th St. Bloomington) on Tuesday, April 12, at 7 p.m.

The show is the only student-presented stop on Lil Wayne's North American "I Am Still Music" tour, produced by Live Nation/Haymon Ventures.

Part of the concert's proceeds will go to Malaria No More, an organization working to end malaria deaths in Africa by 2015.

Lil Wayne has sold more than 10 million records, and his multiplatinum 2008 album, Tha Carter II, sold more than one million copies in its first week of release. Nicki Minaj will join Lil Wayne. A rapper who signed to Lil Wayne's record label Young Money, Minaj's debut album, Pink Friday, recently went platinum.

In addition to main support act Minaj is rap artist Rick Ross, whose latest effort, Teflon Don, debuted at No. 2 on the Billboard 200. Rounding out the lineup are Travis Barker of blink-182 and Mixmaster Mike, who will open the show with a DJ/Drummer set. Barker's new album Give the Drummer Some will be released March 15.

Tickets will be available to IU Bloomington students for a limited-time presale on Thursday (Feb. 24) at 10 a.m. and will be available to the general public Friday (Feb. 25) at 10 a.m. Tickets can be purchased online at Ticketmaster.com, at Ticketmaster ticket centers, and by phone at 800-745-3000. Tickets will also be available in person at the IU Auditorium Box Office, 1211 East Seventh St., and at the Assembly Hall Ticket Office.

A lottery to determine the order of the purchasing line will take place at approximately 9:30 a.m. at each sales location for both the IU Bloomington student presale and the general public onsale. Tickets for the general public are priced from $49.75 to $99.75, and for IU Bloomington students from $44.75 to $99.75. Student prices will remain available for a limited time only.

"As a student organization, it is our responsibility to make sure we are looking out for what the student population wants," said Lisa Wagner, concert director for Union Board. "After seeing these artists' names on countless surveys and a Facebook group with over 50,000 members, we could not ignore the fact that this concert is what the students want, and we therefore had to make it happen."

"We are proud to build on the strong tradition of official Little 500 concerts with this appearance of Lil Wayne in the historic setting of Assembly Hall," said Doug Booher, director of IU Auditorium and major university events. "Union Board has certainly answered the resounding call for an incredible Little 500 concert this year."

The Little 500 is the largest collegiate bike race in the United States and is preceded by a week of programming around the Bloomington campus. More than 25,000 people attend the races and associated events every year, with the proceeds used for working student scholarships at IU.

The Indiana University Memorial Union Board is the largest programming body on the Bloomington campus, organizing events and activities such as concerts, lectures, debates and film screenings.
