Public Safety Career Day at IUPUI to take place Aug. 15

150 experts from 25 agencies include bomb squad, conservation officers, emergency responders

INDIANAPOLIS -- The Indiana University School of Public and Environmental Affairs (SPEA) at Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis is hosting its annual Public Safety Career Day on Aug. 15.

Representatives of agencies including police and fire departments, emergency management, homeland security, forensic services and the Indiana Department of Natural Resources will be on hand to share career advice, demonstrate equipment and talk about their work.

The event, which is free and open to the public, is on Monday, Aug. 15 from noon to 3 p.m. It will be held on the IUPUI campus, on the lawn north of Taylor Hall in the 800 block of West Michigan Street.

"Public Safety Career Day invites the general public to get a taste of what SPEA students experience year-round," said Jim White, clinical lecturer on public safety management at SPEA, who originated the event. "We take students to visit different agencies, and we have guest lecturers in the classroom. But this event brings everyone together, so anyone who's curious can get a lesson in public safety."

SPEA offers graduate and undergraduate degrees in criminal justice and public safety management.
