BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -- The vice chairman of the National Commission on Terrorist Attacks upon the United States, also known as the 9/11 Commission, will speak at the Indiana University Maurer School of Law as part of the school's Constitution Day program.

Former U.S. Rep. Lee H. Hamilton, a 1956 graduate of the law school, will speak on "Homeland Security -- 10 years after 9/11: What more we must do to make Americans safer." Hamilton's address will take place at 10 a.m. on Friday, Sept. 16, in the Sherman Minton Moot Court Room at the Maurer School of Law, 211 S. Indiana Ave. The event is sponsored by the law school's student chapter of the American Constitution Society.

Hamilton's talk coincides with a public discussion featuring members of the 9/11 Commission on Thursday, Sept. 15 from 2-4 p.m. at the IU Auditorium. Titled "Ten Years Later: The 9/11 Commissioners Reflect," this event will be the first time the commissioners have met together since issuing their landmark report on the attacks on July 22, 2004.

Currently director of the Center on Congress at IU, Hamilton was vice chairman of the 9/11 Commission, which was chaired by former New Jersey Gov. Thomas Kean. He represented southern Indiana's 9th District in Congress from 1965-1999.

"We are honored that Lee Hamilton will be visiting the Law School as part of the 9/11 presentations," said Dean and Val Nolan Professor of Law Lauren Robel. "His insights will provide an outstanding educational event for the Law School community."

Hamilton's address is free and open to the public.
