IU Cinema to celebrate Home Movie Day – an international celebration of home movies, indie film
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Oct. 5, 2011
BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -- For the fourth year in a row, Indiana University Bloomington will celebrate Home Movie Day on Oct. 15 from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. This is the first year that the event will take place in its new home: Indiana University Cinema.
The Center for Home Movies started this celebration of home movies and amateur film, now an international event that brings together communities across the world to share their collective histories through film.
To celebrate the partnership with the IU Cinema, this year's Bloomington Home Movie Day will have a special series of films carefully selected from IU's Lilly Library, The David Bradley Collection, IU Archives and a special film titled Dr. Alfred Kinsey and Friends at a Picnic in 1952, from the Kinsey Institute. Also screened will be a reel of a rare performance from Elvis Presley circa 1957 that was recently discovered at an estate auction.
Along with these selections, Home Movie Day will be filled with films brought in by members of the community. The IU Cinema can screen 8mm, Super 8, 16mm, VHS and DVD film formats.
