BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -- The Courtyard project expanded into an exterior and little-used courtyard space that was architecturally created in 1961 when the academic portion of the School of Health Physical Education and Recreation was built. The first expansion since that time, the addition provides much needed educational, advising, offices and future lab spaces as the school continues its growth and transition into a school of public health at Indiana University Bloomington.
The 174-seat auditorium is being named for Tony Mobley, who was dean in the early 1990s when the courtyard project was envisioned. LEED-certified, the project was designed by the firm VPS Architecture of Evansville. Partially funded through private donations, the majority of the $6.3 million project is financed by a bond issuance.
