BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -- Scottish painter and paper crafter David Constable will speak on the IU-Bloomington campus this week about his current work and artistic influences.

Constable is on campus through IU's Program for International Visiting Artists-in-Residence, a collaboration between Collins Living-Learning Center and the Department of Fine Arts.

He will speak about his current work and artists who have influenced his art from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 17, in the Coffeehouse at Collins, at the corner of 10th Street and Woodlawn Avenue. The talk is free and open to the public; light refreshments will follow the presentation.

Constable's art includes still-life, portraiture and landscape, but he also uses surplus materials to create hybrid paper constructions. Many of his images also incorporate text.

Collins Living-Learning Center aims to create an environment in which undergraduate students can succeed academically and grow as individuals in the process of exploring academic interests and avocations that will reward, challenge and stimulate them.
