BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -- Former Hoosier standout and 2010 Ryder Cup member Jeff Overton will present a check for $50,000 to Indiana University to support the Play Golf America University program. The presentation, made by the Indiana PGA Section, will take place during the Indiana-Kentucky men's basketball game Dec. 10 at Assembly Hall in Bloomington.

Overton, a former IU All-American (2004, 2005) on the men's golf team, will present the check to IU men's golf head coach Mike Mayer and Bob Kessler, Physical Activity Instruction Program coordinator in IU's School of Health, Physical Education and Recreation.

Play Golf America University is a PGA of America college and university golf program, designed to teach and engage students in the game of golf through PGA Professional instruction and other golf programs.

In 2010, the U.S. Ryder Cup Team and captain Corey Pavin made a total $2.6 million donation, including a $650,000 donation to Play Golf America University programs. Overton, as well as each team member and Pavin, made $100,000 donations to the charity of their choice. Half of that donation went to the college/university of their choice for the Play Golf America program and the other $50,000 to support the launch of the Ryder Cup Junior Golf Academy, which is designed to benefit aspiring junior golfers who otherwise would not have the opportunity to receive PGA Professional instruction.
