IU Kelley School of Business gets $300,000 from KPMG for Hodge Hall expansion
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Dec. 14, 2011
BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -- Indiana University's Kelley School of Business today, Dec. 14, announced that one of its strategic corporate partners, KPMG LLP, has provided a leadership gift of $300,000 to the school's Undergraduate Building Expansion Campaign, which brings the total of the firm's overall investment in Kelley projects and initiatives to more than $1.5 million.
The Kelley School soon plans to begin work on an expansion and renovation of its 140,000-square-foot original building at 1309 E. 10th St., recently named Hodge Hall. Plans call for a two-phase project that will dramatically transform the school's learning environment for undergraduate students. The combined cost for the new addition and the renovation of existing facilities is estimated to be $60 million. Fundraising continues to secure the balance of the resources needed.
"KPMG has long been one of our most important partners across a variety of areas of the Kelley School," said Dan Smith, dean of the Kelley School. "Their involvement spans participation on advisory boards, assistance for student organizations, philanthropy and recruitment of our graduates. We would certainly be a lesser school without them. It is truly an honor to have KPMG as a supporter of our new undergraduate building."
KPMG, an audit, tax and advisory firm with operations in 144 countries, is one the top employers of IU Kelley School graduates, having extended full-time and internship positions to more than 180 students in the past three years. Its alumni include Mark Shaffer (BS'88), the managing partner of its Indianapolis office.
Kelley alumni at KPMG, supported by matching gifts from the KPMG Foundation, together have pledged $300,000 for a classroom in the expanded building.
"We are very pleased to provide this leadership gift to assist Indiana University in its growth and development," Shaffer said. "Indiana University's School of Business can count many ambassadors at KPMG, and our partners and professionals look forward to the expansion and renovation of the Kelley School and to a continued great partnership."
Other financial support by the firm includes sponsoring a professorship, supporting the Kelley School's Diversity Council and its case competition, and sponsoring its Women in Business, Student Accounting Society and Beta Alpha Psi.
"The Department of Accounting is privileged to have a longstanding partnership with KPMG. The professionals at KPMG devote countless hours to the education and development of our students and faculty," said Laureen Maines, the KPMG Professor of Accounting and department chair. "KPMG's philanthropy to the department plays a key role in retaining outstanding faculty and supporting our teaching and research missions. We are extremely grateful to KPMG for their continued support of both the department and the new undergraduate building."
