BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -- The Indiana University Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, Transgender Alumni Association's Celebration Weekend happens this weekend, Jan. 27-29, coinciding with the Bloomington PRIDE Film Festival for the fourth consecutive year.
"All faculty, staff, students, alumni and friends, please join us this weekend and see for yourselves why IU has received five stars -- the highest possible rating -- for Bloomington's LGBT-friendly campus," says Mike Shumate, GLBTAA president. "Come have a ton of fun, see old friends, make new ones, discuss the latest developments in the state and beyond, and share in the joy of all the strides we've made."
In addition to the film festival, weekend highlights include a reception and silent auction at Grazie Italian Eatery; a social at IU's Lilly Library; and a Sunday brunch, at which the inaugural GLBTAA Distinguished Alumni Award will be presented to alumnus Shane Windmeyer, executive director of the national organization Campus Pride. Windmeyer's accomplishments are detailed below.
Speaking of the weekend, IU Alumni Association Executive Director J T. Forbes says: "The GLBTAA remains one of our most active alumni groups, and this is an event that many look forward to every year. Our GLBT alumni truly make this a festive weekend, one to both reflect back and look forward to the many wonderful memories and accomplishments made at our Hoosier home."
Weekend events range in price from free to $20. To purchase tickets and register for events, go to iuaa.imodules.com/glbtaa-celebration or contact Erin Bruce, alumni service and events coordinator, at 812-856-7260 or eebruce@indiana.edu.
