BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -- Arts Week Everywhere, the annual celebration highlighting arts on the Indiana University campus and in the greater Bloomington community, kicks off April 1.

AWE 2012 places a special focus on Indiana University students, whose creative energy and passion for the arts shape life in Bloomington, both on and off campus. This year, students from IU's Master of Arts Administration program -- led by School of Public and Environmental Affairs visiting lecturer Al Lyons -- are coordinating AWE, which is sponsored by the Office of the Provost.

"For almost 30 years, Arts Week has recognized and showcased the splendid artistic talent that makes this campus and community such a special place," Interim Provost Lauren Robel said. "The superb artists who make this event memorable each year deserve our gratitude, as do the Arts Administration faculty and students whose hard work and creativity bring a direct and tangible connection between our academic mission and this celebration."

The entire Bloomington community is invited and encouraged to join the celebration when AWE kicks off this year's festivities with a launch party from 5:30 to 8 p.m. Sunday, April 1, at the IU Art Museum.

AWE 2012 events run throughout April and include:

A comprehensive list of events, times and venues is available on the new AWE website, artsweek.indiana.edu. Information is also available on an AWE blog, Facebook page and Twitter, using the hashtag #IUAWE. A new mobile app is also available for download on the AWE website.

Arts Week Everywhere
What began as a simple "Arts Weekend" has, 28 years later, become a monthlong celebration showcasing the diversity of arts on campus and in the community. Including live stage performances, music, theater, film, dance and visual arts exhibits held in some of the best arts venues in the country, plus flash mobs, impromptu concerts and interactive art exhibits scattered about campus and the community, Arts Week Everywhere celebrates both the traditional and the unexpected.
