BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -- With the Indiana Hoosiers football team set to launch its 2012 season at home in Memorial Stadium against Indiana State on Saturday, Sept. 1, the IU Athletics Department has issued the following information regarding planned traffic patterns for fans traveling to the game.

Road construction will continue to be a challenge throughout the 2012 season on several major Bloomington thoroughfares, including the Indiana 45/46 Bypass. Fans are encouraged to plan their routes to Memorial Stadium carefully and to arrive early.

IU Athletics has worked closely with the Indiana Department of Transportation, local law enforcement and Milestone Construction to identify alternative routes to and from the stadium. All fans are encouraged to review and consider using one of four alternative routes.

While the pre-game and post-game traffic patterns on roadways surrounding Memorial Stadium have not been modified this season, fans are encouraged to spend time reviewing the pattern before game day.

The only way to avoid prolonged traffic delays is to arrive early.

To accommodate early arrivers, parking lots will open a minimum of five hours before kickoff. In the interest of improving flow into stadium lots, fans are requested to purchase a parking permit in advance from the IU Athletics Ticket Office by calling 866-IUSPORTS.

Hoosier Village will open three hours before kickoff. The football team and coaches will stage The Walk beginning two hours and 15 minutes before kickoff. Children will get an opportunity to enjoy the Kid Zone and Knothole Park 90 minutes before the start of the game.

IU Athletics will post weekly updates on construction progress, alternative routes and potential delays throughout the season. Visit IUHoosiers.com for that information or follow @IUBPublicSafety on Twitter.
