BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -- Indiana University President Michael A. McRobbie issued the following statement upon the IU men's soccer team capturing its eighth national championship Dec. 9 in Hoover, Ala.:

"I want to congratulate the Indiana University men's soccer team and coach Todd Yeagley on bringing IU its eighth soccer national championship with an exciting 1-0 victory over Georgetown on Sunday.

"The team's inspiring and successful 'quest for eight' College Cup titles has brought IU back to the pinnacle of collegiate soccer and is a reflection of the skill, dedication and perseverance of the entire team and its coaching staff.

"College athletics have a unique ability to unite a university community, and the enthusiastic and unwavering fan support shown by our students, including the large 'Hoosier Army' contingent that traveled to Alabama for the College Cup games, are a testament to IU's passion for soccer.

"I join the entire university community in once again congratulating the men's soccer team on a superb and most memorable season."
