Four finalists for IU South Bend chancellor position to visit campus

SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- Indiana University South Bend has named four finalists in the search for a new chancellor. Finalists for the position will visit the campus this month to meet with faculty, staff, students and community members.
Following those visits, the next step will be for the university search committee that identified the finalists to meet again and make further recommendations to President Michael A. McRobbie and Executive Vice President John Applegate. McRobbie will make the final selection, subject to approval by the IU Board of Trustees.
The finalists and their campus visit dates are:
- Terry Allison, provost and vice president of academic affairs, Governors State University -- Jan. 22
- Anne Huot, provost and vice president of academic affairs, The College at Brockport, State University of New York -- Jan. 23
- Brent Chrite, dean of the School of Business, Montclair State University -- Jan. 28
- Barb Jones, vice president, division of student affairs, Miami University -- Jan. 31
"It has been both a pleasure and an honor to work with such fine search committee colleagues in South Bend who have worked diligently and carefully to find four outstanding finalists in a very strong pool of potential candidates," said William Lowe, IU Northwest chancellor and chair of the search committee.
"We have invited these excellent candidates to visit and meet with the full range of faculty, staff, students and members of the extended IU South Bend community. The committee looks forward to the visits and to receiving comments from our colleagues about the candidates."
Allison has been provost and vice president of academic affairs at Governors State University in Illinois since 2010. He is also a professor of English. Before that he was dean of the College of Arts and Letters at California State University, Los Angeles, from 2006 to 2010. He was also a faculty member and served in a variety of roles at California State University, San Marcos, from 1991 to 2006. He has a Ph.D. in literature from the University of California, San Diego.
Huot has served as provost and vice president of academic affairs at The College at Brockport, State University of New York, since 2007. She served in several roles for the State University of New York system administration from 2003 to 2007, including three years as executive vice provost and head of the office of academic affairs. She received a doctorate in cell and molecular biology from the University of Vermont and served in a variety of leadership positions there from 1990 to 2003, including four years as executive dean of the graduate college.
Since 2009, Chrite has been the dean of the School of Business at Montclair State University, where he is also a professor of management and international business. From 2003 to 2009, he served as associate dean and a faculty-fellow at the University of Arizona's Eller College of Management. He received his doctorate in higher education from the University of Michigan, where he later served as a faculty member, assistant dean and director of the school's flagship research and outreach institute, the William Davidson Institute.
Jones has been vice president, division of student affairs, at Miami University since 2008. Her prior experience included serving as assistant chancellor for student affairs at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater from 2000 to 2008 and as associate vice president for student affairs at Ball State University from 1990 to 2000. She received her Ph.D. in educational administration from the University of Minnesota and her bachelor's and master's degrees from Indiana University Bloomington.

A 13-member search committee began work in the summer to identify and interview candidates for the position. Current IU South Bend Chancellor Una Mae Reck will retire as chancellor in June after having served as chief executive officer of the campus since 2002.
