IU Kelley School academic journal rises in Thomson Reuters Impact Factor rankings
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
June 27, 2013
BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -- Business Horizons, an academic journal published by Indiana University's Kelley School of Business, has seen a big gain in the Thomson Reuters Impact Factor rankings.
The Impact Factor rankings measure how often academic journal articles are cited by scholars and researchers. The new Impact Factor for Business Horizons is 1.416, up from .900 in 2012. Its first Impact Factor was calculated for 2011 at .809.
This increase also moves Business Horizons to 51st in the rankings for business journals, just ahead of MIT's Sloan Management Review (1.413) and other well-known business journals such as Journal of Asian Business Management (1.333), Journal of Business Ethics (1.27), Journal of Asian Business Management (1.333) and Journal of Small Business Economics (1.13).
"Business Horizons has long been regarded as a top-quality publication," said Idalene Kesner, dean designate of the Kelley School. "Its appeal crosses many audiences including researchers, practitioners and educators. Its value is also the result of the high quality of its articles, which span across multiple business disciplines.
"We are pleased and proud to see the recognition for this publication and the impact it is having on business thought and practice," Kesner added. "We hope business researchers will regard this as an outstanding outlet for sharing their business research, and we hope practitioners will continue to see the value of these articles in their workplaces and business careers."
Business Horizons is a bimonthly journal, published by Elsevier on behalf of the Kelley School of Business, under the leadership of editor Marc Dollinger, a professor of management.
The Kelley School believes the improvement in the rankings is due to more and better manuscripts. In 2010-11 academic year, 91 papers published in Business Horizons were submitted. This increased to 174 for 2011-12 and will be nearly 190 for 2012-13.
"These are all part of our unsolicited manuscript flow and does not included invited papers, special issue papers and ephemera," Kesner added. "We have developed an excellent reputation in papers about social media, and this represents a significant portion of our citations."
Kesner acknowledged the efforts of former editor and Professor Emerita Catherine Dalton, who helped Business Horizons secure the initial Impact Factor rating; and Dollinger. She also noted the efforts of several Kelley faculty members, including associate editors Herman Aguinis, Tim Lemper and Jane Mallor.
Business Horizons recently has focused on key business issues through a series of special issues, including those on international business and international banking and finance in 2013 and those on business analytics and international supply chains in 2014.
