Search begins for IU Southeast chancellor

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -- A 13-member search and screen committee has been formed to identify finalists for the position of chancellor of Indiana University Southeast. John Applegate, IU executive vice president for university academic affairs, announced the committee's formation today.

The committee, which will begin meeting in August, will initiate a national search to replace former IU Southeast Chancellor Sandra Patterson-Randles, who led the campus from 2002 to 2013 before retiring last month. Barbara Bichelmeyer was appointed to a one-year term as interim chancellor effective July 1. She will continue as IU director of online education.

"I look forward to receiving the recommendations of the search committee in the coming year," Applegate said. "The capable leadership of Sandra Patterson-Randles over the last 11 years has placed IU Southeast in an excellent position to build on in the future."

Edwin Marshall, IU vice president for diversity, equity and multicultural affairs and professor of optometry, will chair the committee, which also includes representatives from the faculty, staff and student body at IU Southeast, as well as from the greater southern Indiana community. The committee expects to complete its work by spring, with the goal of having the new chancellor begin his or her term in July 2014. The formal appointment of the chancellor is made by the IU Board of Trustees.

In addition to Marshall, the members of the search committee are:

• Jean Abshire, associate professor of political science in the School of Social Sciences, Indiana University Southeast
• Juli Crecelius, administrative secretary, School of Arts and Letters, IU Southeast
• Kathryn Ernstberger, professor of business administration and coordinator of undergraduate business programs, School of Business, Indiana University Southeast
• Kathleen Free, clinical professor in the School of Nursing, IU Southeast
• James Hollenbeck, professor in the School of Education, IU Southeast
• Trey Lewis, director of career development at IU Southeast
• Stephon Moore, president of the Student Government Association at IU Southeast
• Michael Naville, managing partner at Lorch & Naville Attorneys; past president of the IU Southeast Alumni Board of Directors
• C. Martin Rosen, director of library services at IU Southeast
• Angela Salas, professor of English in the School of Arts and Letters and director of the honors program at IU Southeast
• Aaron Setterdahl, associate professor of chemistry in the School of Natural Sciences at IU Southeast
• Rosita Young, human resources contractor at Jeffersonville Bureau of the Census; member of the Board of Advisors at IU Southeast
• Member ex-officio Jennifer Kincaid, chief of staff/director of policy administration in the IU Office of the Executive Vice President for University Academic Affairs.

IU Southeast is one of eight campuses of Indiana University. Offering more than 50 degree programs and concentrations, the scenic 180-acre campus is less than 15 minutes from downtown Louisville, Ky.
