BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -- For the second straight year, the Indiana Daily Student at Indiana University Bloomington won the "Best All-Around Daily Student Newspaper" award in the Society of Professional Journalists' Mark of Excellence competition. The independent campus newspaper has won several other honors this spring.

The Society of Professional Journalists has presented the Mark of Excellence Awards honoring the best in student journalism for 34 years. The IDS will be honored at the 2006 SPJ Convention & National Journalism Conference in Chicago in late August.

The IDS, along with The Daily Iowan, recently won College Publisher's Award of Excellence for "Best Cutting Edge Use of Technology." College Publisher is the leading provider of publishing and marketing services to the collegiate publishing market.

The IDS also won an EPpy (Editor and Publisher magazine award) for "Best College Newspaper Internet Service." This is the second consecutive year the IDS has won this title. Since 1996, the EPpy Awards have honored the best new media services in the newspaper industry.

Earlier this spring, the IDS and the campus' student yearbook, The Arbutus, won four awards at The Columbia Scholastic Press Association's 82nd Annual Scholastic Convention. The IDS won the Gold Crown, the highest award given, for both the fall and spring semesters of the 2004-05 school year. The 2005 Arbutus yearbook brought home the Gold Crown and an Apple Award for best-in-show.

The CSPA also announced individual award recipients at the 23rd annual Gold Circle Awards. The IDS and Arbutus won 26 Gold Circle Awards consisting of seven first-place, nine second-place and four third-place awards and six certificates of merit.

The IDS also recently competed in the 34th annual College Newspaper Business and Advertising Managers conference held in Philadelphia. The IDS won the Best of Category for both Display Advertisement Spot Color and Special Section, second place for Display Advertisement Full Color and third for Display Advertising Campaign.
