BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -- Indiana University's Kelley School of Business today (July 19) announced the formation of a 14-member advisory board of life science industry leaders who will help faculty and students in continuing the momentum established this past year by its Healthcare & Life Sciences Initiative.

Newly named board members, who already had strong ties to the Kelley School, all hold high-ranking posts at life sciences companies inside and outside Indiana. The Kelley School also works closely with governmental and economic development partners involved in the state's life sciences effort.

Lawrence Davidson, professor of business economics and public policy and the Kelley School's liaison to the initiative, said Kelley will be greatly aided by regular contact with industry professionals who will help develop further the life sciences as a focus area.

Faculty and students will benefit from industry input on programs and courses, and from broader and deeper contacts within the field as well. A continuing goal is to create more opportunities for more students to be hired as interns and employees by life science companies.

In its first year the Kelley School Healthcare & Life Sciences Initiative successfully organized four seminars that addressed a range of important topics related to the business side of the life sciences. The series will continue this fall on Sept. 21 in Indianapolis with a seminar, "The Age of Life Sciences Informatics."

Dan Smith, dean of the Kelley School, said today's announcement is consistent with the school's mission to transform lives, organizations and society through business education and research.

"Advancing the life sciences is an important, specific aspect of our mission, and the input these life-science industry leaders offer will help us immensely as we move forward," Smith said, adding that he is "delighted by and proud of the diversity and stature of companies represented on the Kelley Life Sciences Board."

The inaugural members of the board are:
