BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -- The Kelley School of Business at Indiana University continues to be one of the few to offer nationally respected undergraduate and graduate programs as ranked by U.S. News and World Report magazine.

And, for the sixth consecutive year, the magazine cited two IU campuses for offering "academic programs that are commonly linked to student success."

U.S. News recognized several undergraduate major fields of study at the Kelley School and continues to rank it as the 11th best in the nation overall. It was second only to the University of Michigan among undergraduate business programs in the Big Ten and sixth nationally among public universities.

The school's overall ranking of No. 11 places it among the top 2 percent of nationally accredited programs.

"There are over 3,000 colleges and universities that offer business degrees. Being ranked 11th overall and sixth among public schools certainly places the Kelley School among the elite business programs in the nation," said Dan Smith, dean of the Kelley School. "At the same time, we are not overly concerned with rankings. Our focus is on constant innovation and ensuring that we provide our students with a world-class learning experience and career opportunities that launch them toward realizing their dreams."

The magazine also praised the school's entrepreneurship program led by Donald F. Kuratko, the Jack M. Gill Chair of Entrepreneurship and executive director of its Johnson Center for Entrepreneurship & Innovation. The school's undergraduate offerings in entrepreneurship were ranked second overall by U.S. News and continue to be first among public universities, as is its graduate program.

"We have developed a strong team of faculty in our entrepreneurship program in recent years who have reached out across IU and the state," Smith added. "Our No. 1 ranking among public universities in this area can be traced in large measure to their commitment to innovation and to the generous support we receive from several friends of the school."

In addition to entrepreneurship, Kelley was a top 10 public school in all the other specialties ranked. Among public institutions, Kelley was ranked fourth in accounting; fifth in finance, international business and marketing; sixth in management, management information systems and quantitative analysis and methods; eighth in real estate and production/operations; and ninth in insurance/risk management and supply chain management.

Under the heading "Programs to Look For," U.S. News recognized IU Bloomington and Indiana University Purdue University Indianapolis for the quality of their educational experiences for first-year students. The campuses were noted for building into their curricula seminars and programs that bring together small groups of students with faculty.

"Once again, Indiana University has been ranked among the very best universities in the country, which is a credit to our faculty, staff and administrators as others recognize the quality of education provided to our students," said Roger J. Thompson, IU vice provost for enrollment management.

IU Bloomington and IUPUI were again cited for their success in promoting learning communities that build connections among fellow students and between students and professors. IUPUI was again cited for its efforts to promote service learning -- the use of volunteering in the community as an educational strategy.

"U.S. News has recognized something that students and parents familiar with IU have known for years, which is that an IU education and degree provide an incredible return on the investment," Thompson added. "Our students learn from the best faculty in the country, and upon graduation the value of their degree is recognized by employers, graduate and professional schools around the world."

Overall, U.S. News ranked IU Bloomington 33rd among public national research universities.
