FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Oct. 18, 2007
BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -- "Be true to your school now, and let your colors fly…" goes the 1963 Beach Boys' hit…and that's just what IU students did in the "Celebrate IU" student video contest, sponsored by IU's Office of Creative Services and Union Board.
A panel of judges, including student representatives from the Union Board and staff members from Creative Services, selected one grand prize winner and one runner-up in the "Celebrate IU" video contest.
The grand prize winner was Zack Conyne-Rapin, who highlighted traditions, community and discoveries as "just a few of the many reasons to love IU."
"I decided to enter the 'Celebrate IU' student video contest, because I love Indiana University and wanted to share that feeling," Conyne-Rapin said. "IU Bloomington is a very special place steeped in tradition, community, and a thirst for knowledge and discovery."
He received two tickets to the 2007 Homecoming Concert featuring Bob Dylan, Elvis Costello and Amos Lee on October 19 at Assembly Hall, and a tailgating package prepared by Indiana Memorial Union catering.
Megan Cotton and Heather Hontz received the runner-up prize -- a package including Indiana Memorial Union Building coupons to Starbucks, Sugar and Spice, Burger King, Kiva and the Market, as well as two grand buffets in the Tudor Room, two advanced screenings at the IMU, and two tickets to Godspell the Musical.
In their video "Why do you love IU?" they asked students around campus what they loved about IU and even asked some to sing "Indiana, Our Indiana."
The contest was conceived as a way for students to declare their love for IU during the inaugural "Celebrate IU" Week. The contest was open to students on all eight IU campuses and accepted entries 60 seconds long or less.
