Suzanne Thorin assumes additional title
For a number of years, Dean of University Libraries Suzanne E. Thorin has worked with the University Libraries, the Office of the Vice President for Information Technology, the School of Library and Information Science and the School of Informatics to further IU's national and international reputation as a center for digital libraries research.
To recognize her work in this crucial area for Indiana University, Dean Thorin will now assume the additional title of Associate Vice President for Digital Library Development and work closely with Michael McRobbie, Vice President for Information Technology and IU's Chief Information Officer.
While their more conventional counterparts store tangible objects like books, maps and other holdings, digital libraries store data. At a time when the volume of stored digital data is growing dramatically, Thorin and other digital librarians look for better ways to organize that data so people can find information more easily.
Thorin, who helped create the Indiana University Digital Library Program, is an active researcher in the field of digital libraries. She is currently involved in a number of projects covering such areas as digital repositories for faculty publications, the integration of digital library services with instructional technology and the expansion of common electronic library resources available to all IU campuses.
She is also a co-primary investigator on the four year, $3 million, NSF-funded Variations2 Digital Music Library project.
