IU Bloomington multidisciplinary ventures and seminars fund recipients announced

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -- Three new multidisciplinary ventures have been selected by the Office of Academic Affairs and the Dean of the Faculties to receive funding for this academic year. Proposals were received from a broad range of inter-coordinated departments and schools demonstrating innovative and intellectually stimulating projects. Ventures include:

• Following in Cortés' Shadow: From Veracruz to Mexico City -- A book and exhibition project involving Kathleen Myers, Department of Spanish and Portuguese, and Steve Raymer, School of Journalism. Additional financial support comes from the Digital Arts and Humanities Institute, the Moveable Feast of the Arts, the Indiana Council of the Arts and the Center for Documentary Study.
• Life Science Initiative: Bioinformatics' Role at Indiana University -- A speaker series organized and headed by Mehmet Dalkilic, School of Informatics; Peter Cherbas, Department of Biology; and Jeff Palmer, Department of Biology. Additional financial support comes from the School of Informatics, the Center for Genomics and Bioinformatics, the Indiana University Medical School and the Department of Biology.
• The Truth of the Humanities -- A lecture series and graduate course organized and developed by Dror Wahrman, Department of History, and Michel Chauoli, Department of Germanic Studies. Additional financial support comes from the William T. Patten Foundation and the College of Arts and Sciences.

Proposals are encouraged in all areas of intellectual inquiry, contemporary and historical, that draw together two or more disciplines in an innovative way, including those fostering the Indiana University goals of globalization and internationalization of research and creative activities. To be eligible for funding, a proposal must be coordinated by two or more full-time tenured or tenure-track faculty or librarians from the IU Bloomington campus representing at least two different disciplines and with primary academic homes in different schools or in different departments of the College of Arts and Sciences.
