INDIANAPOLIS -- Supporters of higher education from around Indiana will travel to the state Capitol in Indianapolis on Wednesday, Feb. 13, for the 17th annual Hoosiers for Higher Education Statehouse Visit and IU Life Sciences Day.

The program will begin at 1 p.m. in the North Atrium of the Statehouse and will include remarks by Indiana University President Michael A. McRobbie and IU Bloomington Provost Karen Hanson.

Participants will attempt to meet with their respective state senators and representatives between 2 p.m. and 3:30 p.m. There will be a reception at the Indiana Roof Ballroom from 3:30 p.m. to 5 p.m.

In conjunction with advocacy by students, faculty, staff, alumni and other supporters, IU will again celebrate the Indiana Life Sciences Initiative with interactive exhibits on faculty research in the Statehouse South Atrium from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The Indiana Life Sciences Initiative is IU's plan to bring $2.4 billion to the Hoosier economy, create 2,500 new life-science jobs and 11,500 additional jobs, and attract or create 100 Indiana-based companies through increased support of life-science research.

Hoosiers for Higher Education is a grass-roots advocacy organization that is sponsored by the Indiana University Alumni Association and that works in conjunction with the IU Office of the Vice President of Public Affairs and Government Relations. Its primary goal is to engage members to connect with public officials about the importance of supporting funding and policies that ensure IU continues to be a premier international teaching and research institution.
