BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -- Steve Lavin, a broadcast analyst for ABC and ESPN Sports and former men's basketball coach at UCLA, will provide color commentary about what it's like to be in broadcasting in a speech at Indiana University on Feb. 25.

Lavin, now in his fifth season in the broadcast booth, will speak at 6:30 p.m. in room 220 of Ernie Pyle Hall. The following evening, he will join Brent Musburger on the Feb. 26 ESPN broadcast of IU's game against Ohio State University.

The speech is co-sponsored by the School of Health, Physical Education and Recreation and the School of Journalism and is free and open to the public.

Lavin's coaching perspective was forged during his 15 years as a coach in Division I college basketball. As UCLA's head coach from 1996 to 2003, Lavin compiled a record of 145-78 and led the Bruins to the 1997 Pac-10 Championship and the NCAA Elite Eight in his inaugural season.

He guided UCLA to six consecutive 20-plus game winning seasons and to six consecutive NCAA tournaments. As head coach, his career record in the first two rounds of the NCAA Tournament is 10-1. He is the only head coach in NCAA men's basketball history to lead his team to victory over the No. 1 team in the country in four consecutive collegiate seasons.

Lavin was relieved of his duties in 2003 after his first losing season as a head coach. Shortly thereafter, Lavin joined ESPN and ABC.

Before his tenure as UCLA's head coach, Lavin was an assistant coach with the Bruins, beginning in 1991, and a graduate assistant and staff member at Purdue University from 1988 to 1991. He is a 1988 graduate of Chapman University in California.
