IU endowment ranks in top 15 nationally

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -- Once again, Indiana University ranks among the top 15 public universities in the nation in the market value of its endowment, according to a survey released by the National Association of College and University Business Officers (NACUBO). The university has appeared in the Top 15 for the past 18 years.

As of June 30, 2007, IU's endowment totaled $1.6 billion, which placed IU 14th among all public universities and eighth in the Big Ten. More than 780 colleges and universities participated in the survey.

"This continued high ranking is a reflection of the support and generosity that Indiana University enjoys from so many of its donors and alumni," said IU President Michael A. McRobbie. "I am personally delighted with this ranking, and would like to express my sincere appreciation to all who have made it possible through their contributions. Our endowment enables us to rise to a higher level of academic excellence and provides increasing levels of student financial aid that are so important to our recruitment and retention efforts."

The endowment, which is managed by the Indiana University Foundation, received contributions from more than 112,000 donors last year.

"The growth of the endowment enhances the influence of the University, specifically its impact on students and faculty," said Curt Simic, president of the IU Foundation. "We have the Investment Committee of our Board of Directors to thank for the tremendous growth. Their prudent management and expertise has provided for the constant growth of the endowment, and consequently the advancement of the University," Simic said.
