Alumni volunteers to be honored at IU’s Cream and Crimson Alumni Weekend June 13-15

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -- Indiana University alumni from around the world will be on the IU Bloomington campus this weekend (June 13-15) for the annual Cream and Crimson Alumni Weekend.
Activities will include meetings of the IU Alumni Association Executive Council, a barbecue luncheon, the annual Chapter Leaders Conference and induction into the Emeritus Club for alumni who graduated 50 years ago. There will be two awards banquets and breakfasts hosted by IU schools and reunions for the classes of 1953 and 1958.
An awards banquet on Friday evening will honor alumni chapters for service to IU and local communities. The IUAA has more than 100 chapters around the world engaged in student recruitment, social and networking activities and community service.
At the banquet, the IUAA will present its President's Awards, the highest honor the association bestows upon alumni volunteers. The recipients this year will be Don W. Goelzer, of Indianapolis; Paula A. Griesel, of Bloomington, Ind.; Ronald L. Lind, of Lebanon, Ind.; Lindy G. Moss, of Fort Wayne, Ind.; and Oneita S. Phillips, of Louisville, Ky. All are life members of the IUAA.
During the barbecue lunch on Saturday, the IUAA will present the Gertrude Rich Award and the Bill Orwig Medal.
Becky Hart Fox, of Syracuse, Ind., will receive the Gertrude Rich Award, which is presented each year to a woman who has exemplified the spirit of Gertrude Rich in making outstanding contributions to the IUAA. Rich was the wife of Claude Rich, who served as director of the IUAA from 1948-68.
Hank Warren, of Indianapolis, will receive the Bill Orwig Medal, which recognizes outstanding contributions made by a non-alumnus or non-alumna to the IU athletics program. The award is named for Bill Orwig, IU's director of athletics from 1961 to 1975.
During a banquet Saturday evening, the IUAA will present the Distinguished Alumni Service Awards (DASA), the highest award given solely to alumni. The recipients this year will be Kenneth A. Beckley and Sallie W. Rowland, both of Indianapolis; Tony A. Mobley, of Bloomington, Ind.; Joseph J. Russell, of Columbus, Ohio; and Desmond C. Wong, of Northbrook, Ill.

Becky Hart Fox
Fox, the recipient of the Gertrude Rich Award, graduated from IU in 1965 with a bachelor's in physical education. She works as a real estate broker specializing in lake property with Todd Realty in Syracuse, Ind. A Million Dollar Club member, Fox has been a board member with the Kosciusko County Board of Realtors and the Wawasee Property Owners Association. She is currently president of the Syracuse Lake Association.
A life member of the IUAA, Fox has served as secretary for both the Nashville, Tenn., and the Kosciusko County (Ind.) chapters of the Alumni Association.
A member of the Kappa Alpha Theta sorority, Fox met her husband, Stan, a Phi Gamma Delta fraternity member, during their junior year at IU Bloomington in 1964. They married five days after their graduation in 1965.
Fox and her husband live in Syracuse, Ind. They have one son and three grandchildren.
Don Goelzer
Goelzer, a President's Award recipient, earned his bachelor's degree in finance at IU's Kelley School of Business in 1950. In 1969, he established Goelzer Investment Management, where he is currently chairman and chief investment officer. A founding member of the National Security Traders Association Indianapolis Chapter, Goelzer is also active in the American Business Club and Association of Investment Management and Research.
Goelzer holds memberships in IUAA's 1854 Society, Hoosiers for Higher Education, the IU Varsity Club and the I Association. He currently serves on the IUAA's Investment Committee and was its chairman for 30 years. During that time he helped oversee tremendous growth in the Alumni Association's resources. Goelzer lives in Indianapolis with his wife, Joan.
Paula Griesel
Griesel, also a President's Award recipient, is a retired elementary-school teacher who earned a master's degree in education in 1967and a Reading Specialist Certificate in 1982, both from IU.
Griesel taught reading for many years with both the Lake and Porter County school corporations in Indiana. A strong advocate for children, especially those with special needs or in at-risk situations, Griesel completed her teaching career at Tri-North Middle School in Bloomington, Ind.
Griesel is a former member of the IUAA Executive Council, and has served in leadership positions with three different IUAA chapters, including the Northwest Valley Arizona (Sun Cities) Chapter, the West Central Indiana (Lafayette) Chapter, and the Monroe County (Bloomington) Chapter. She is a past president of both the Northwest Valley and West Central Indiana Chapters and served on the board of directors for the Monroe County Chapter.
As the Monroe County Chapter's student recruitment chairwoman, Griesel has been active as an IU Bloomington alumni student recruiter for many years and received the chapter's Outstanding Alumni Volunteer Award in 2006. In addition, Griesel is an officer with Phi Delta Kappa and the Indiana State Chapter of the International Reading Association.
A native of New York City, Griesel now resides in Owens Cross Roads, Ala.
Ron Lind
Lind, also a President's Award recipient, earned a bachelor's degree in accounting from the Kelley School of Business in 1961. An advocate and volunteer for IU in Boone County, specifically in the Lebanon, Ind., area, Lind has been involved with the Herman B Wells Boone County Chapter of the IUAA since its inception in 1994. He has served in numerous volunteer leadership roles with the chapter, including president, vice president, several committee chair positions, and currently as a chapter board member.
During his volunteer tenure with the chapter, he organized IU events and activities, including community service projects, Indiana Day programs and annual alumni golf outings. Lind is also an active member of the IU Varsity Club, Woodburn Guild and Hoosiers for Higher Education.
Lind also belongs to the Lebanon Rotary Club, Community Foundation of Boone County, Boone County Chamber of Commerce, Boone County Economic Development Corp. and St. Joseph Catholic Church. He and his wife, Frances, an IU alumna, live in Lebanon, Ind., where Lind owns Ronald Lind CPA & Associates. The Linds have nine children and 19 grandchildren. All nine of their children attended IU.
Lindy G. Moss
Moss, also a President's Award recipient, earned three bachelor's degrees from IU -- in business in 1949, in government in 1950, and in law in 1952.
A supporter of IU and the Alumni Association for more than 50 years, Moss served as president of the School of Law--Bloomington Alumni Association from 1967-69 and was awarded its Distinguished Service Award in 1997. In 1998, he was elected to the board of the John Whittenberger Society and became the society's president in 2003. The Northeast Chapter of the IUAA awarded him its Distinguished Alumnus Award in 2001. In addition, Moss belongs to the Varsity Club and the Woodburn Guild and is a life member of the Friends of Music as well as the IUAA.
Moss has remained active with his fraternity, Delta Upsilon, and currently serves as president of its Wrangler Foundation. He has served as president of the Fort Wayne Rotary Club and Fort Wayne Quest Club and has served on the board of directors of the Parkview Memorial Hospital and the Allen County Bar Association. He and his wife, Jeanne, live in Fort Wayne, Ind., where he has practiced law since 1956.
Oneita S. Phillips
Phillips, also a President's Award recipient, graduated from IU in 1977 with a master's degree in education. She began her teaching career with the Indianapolis Public School system and finished with the Floyd County Schools in New Albany, Ind., after 36 years of service. She is currently employed by the U.S. Department of Agriculture.
In 2004, Phillips helped found the Kentuckiana Chapter of the Neal-Marshall Alumni Club. With her leadership, the club received the Chapter of the Year award twice, notably for its successful scholarship program. She currently serves as secretary for the national Neal-Marshall Alumni Club.
Phillips belongs to Delta Kappa Gamma, City of Louisville Mayor's Prayer Breakfast Committee, and the Business and Professional Women of New Albany where she has been president and district director. She lives in Louisville, Ky.
Hank Warren Jr.
Warren, the recipient of the Bill Orwig Medal, was a master sergeant with the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II. He worked at Keene-Belvidere Canning Co., Lever Brothers and Stokely Van Camp. During his time as executive director and vice president of marketing for Stokely, he was responsible for the purchase and introduction of Gatorade. A retired entrepreneur, Warren owned a French winery, was chairman of the board for the Indianapolis Indians, and has been recognized in The World Who's Who of Finance and Industry and The World Who's Who of Commerce and Industry.
Warren was awarded Indiana's highest distinction, the Sagamore of the Wabash, by Gov. Harold Hanley in 1960. He was made an Honorary Citizen of Tennessee by Gov. Frank G. Clement in 1965 and a Kentucky Colonel by Gov. Louis B. Nunn in 1971. His numerous memberships include the Indianapolis Athletic Club, American Business Club and Beta Theta Pi fraternity.
Warren attended Beloit College in Wisconsin and later received a degree in the Advanced Management Program at Harvard Business School. He began attending IU football games in 1947 with his wife, Barbara, and has been an advocate of IU athletics ever since. A long-standing member of the Hoosier Hundred, Warren has provided funds for the football field and football program.
Warren lives in Indianapolis.
