BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -- Chris Enstrom has been named the new director of the Indiana University Bloomington 21st Century Scholars Program. As director, Enstrom will be responsible for developing programs, services, workshops and events designed to help more than 1,000 21st Century Scholars on the IU Bloomington campus succeed and reach their fullest academic potential.

Prior to accepting the position as director, Enstrom was the student coordinator for the South Central Regional Support Site of the 21st Century Scholars Program, where he recruited eligible junior high students in Bartholomew, Brown, Lawrence, Morgan, Monroe, Orange and Owen Counties into the 21st Century Scholars Program. In addition, he met with high school recipients of the scholarship to help them through the college application process.

"I found my last position extremely satisfying," said Enstrom. "During my two years as student coordinator, I helped recruit hundreds of 21st Century Scholars. But if 21st Century Scholars don't actually get a college degree, their scholarship is just a piece of paper. As director of the IU Bloomington 21st Century Scholars Program, I'll be able to assist scholars in the pursuit of their diploma, an opportunity that I find both personally and professionally satisfying."

Patrick Smith, the executive director of the Office of Mentoring Services and Leadership Development and Enstrom's direct supervisor, praised the appointment.

"Chris's previous experience as student coordinator for 21st Century Scholars makes him an ideal candidate for the director position," said Smith. "Along with his knowledge of the 21st Century Scholars Program, he brings a thorough understanding of the challenges that confront many scholars, along with a strong commitment and desire to see them succeed."

The IU Bloomington 21st Century Scholars Program offers a variety of free services to recipients of the scholarship on campus, from academic tutoring, to financial aid workshops, to free tickets to cultural events and concerts.
