IU Law Professor Hoffmann honored by Texas Center for the Judiciary
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Sept. 26, 2008
BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -- Joseph L. Hoffmann, the Harry Pratter Professor of Law and Director of International Programs at the Indiana University School of Law--Bloomington, is the recipient of the 2008 Judicial Excellence in Education Award for Outstanding Non-Judicial Faculty.
The award, presented by the Texas Center for the Judiciary, was given to Hoffman by a unanimous vote. The center's Curriculum Committee recognizes faculty members who consistently provide outstanding programs and teaching excellence to the judicial audience.
Hoffmann was selected to receive the award for his long-term contribution to the judges of Texas by presenting them with U.S. Supreme Court Updates during the Texas Center for the Judiciary's annual Criminal Justice Conference. More than 250 Texas judges who have criminal jurisdiction regularly attend the conference.
"I am extremely grateful to receive this award," Hoffmann said. "It has been an honor, and a real pleasure, for me to play a small part in what the Texas Center for the Judiciary does."
The Texas Center for the Judiciary's primary goal is to provide leadership in both education and training to judicial officials and their staffs, resulting in the administration of fair and efficient justice, Executive Director Mari Kay Bickett said.
Hoffmann, a criminal law and procedure expert at Indiana Law, said working with the center allows him to keep up with current trends in the judicial world.
"I've always told Mari Kay that I feel like I'm getting the better of the deal; I'm sure that I've learned more from my discussions with Texas judges over the years than they have learned from me," Hoffmann said. "And it's just plain fun to talk about law with such interesting and knowledgeable judges. I hope my enthusiasm comes through in my teaching, and I hope I'll be able to continue working with Mari Kay, and her wonderful staff, for many years to come."
