Jason Casares named new associate dean of students and director of student ethics

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -- Indiana University Dean of Students Harold "Pete" Goldsmith has announced the appointment of Jason Casares as the new associate dean of students and director of student ethics.
Casares will replace Pam Freeman, who will retire at the end of June. He will assume his new position on Aug. 1.
Casares is currently the assistant dean of students at the University of Arizona, where he has similar responsibilities in judicial affairs as those he will have at IU. He also has held positions at Purdue University as assistant dean of students in the area of student organizations, at Texas Tech in residence life and at Ball State in multicultural affairs.
"We look forward to working with Jason. He has the skills sets we were looking for in the leadership of our Student Ethics Office and will be a valued colleague on our leadership team as we move forward in the Division of Student Affairs," Goldsmith said. "He has significant experience in working with students and student organizations."
Casares has a Bachelor of Science degree in criminal justice and sociology and two Master of Arts degrees -- in sociology and in student affairs administration in higher education -- from Ball State University. In December he will earn his Doctorate of Philosophy in higher education administration from the University of Arizona.
He is an active presenter in the higher education profession, having made numerous presentations at the National Association of Student Personnel Administrators (NASPA) national and regional conferences and at various other institutions of higher education. He also has held several national and regional positions with NASPA. In addition, he has volunteered his time and talents with both campus and community organizations.

The Division of Student Affairs is led by the dean of students and includes the following programs and services for students and parents: Alchohol-Drug Information Center, Career Development Center, Disability Services for Students, GLBT Support Services, IU Health Center, Counseling and Psychological Services, Parents Association, Office of Alternative & Screening and Intervention Services, Student Activities, Student Advocates, Student Ethics, Student Legal Services and Veterans Support Services.
