BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -- The Center on Intellectual Property at the Indiana University Maurer School of Law has launched a unique peer-reviewed journal on topics of interest to scholars and practitioners in patent, trademark and copyright law.
Titled IP Theory, the online journal is unique because it combines the academic rigor of a law review with the immediacy of a legal blog, according to Mark D. Janis, Robert A. Lucas Chair of Law and director of the center.
Janis noted that IP Theory is being indexed as an open access journal, in addition to being available through the usual online subscription services. "The open access feature will make it much easier for readers to find timely and relevant topics and to share them with peers," he said.
Third-year law students Kristen Cameron, Andrei Marks and Allison Weimer serve as the founding student editors of IP Theory. "I've enjoyed seeing IP Theory grow from an idea to a published online edition," Weimer said. "The other student editors and I have had the unique opportunity to be involved in something so entrepreneurial and work on all aspects of publication, from proofreading to copy editing to final layout. We have particularly enjoyed the exposure to and interaction with so many well-known IP scholars."
IP Theory features articles, opinion pieces, essays, book reviews and reviews of literature in IP law and in allied fields of interest to IP scholars. The inaugural issue includes essays by participants in the Second Trademarks Scholars Roundtable held at DePaul University College of Law in April 2010. The second issue, slated for publication in early 2011, will contain materials from a conference titled Patent Scope Revisited and held at the Maurer School of Law in September 2010.
