BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -- Indiana University Communications was recently honored with two national awards from the Council for Advancement and Support of Education for website projects created in collaboration with the IU Alumni Association and IU Cinema, while IU South Bend was recognized for its work with an annual magazine.
IU Communications received two 2012 Circle of Excellence silver awards. The first is for creative use of technology in connection with the Spirit of IU online community on the IU Alumni Association website, created to engage alumni to join a larger conversation centered on the university. The second award is for creation of a website for IU Cinema, which opened in January 2011 and has since earned a national name for itself with strong academic ties, state-of-the-art technology and visits by big-name filmmakers.
"The CASE judges have said that the bar has been raised in social media, website and technology categories, so we're pleased Indiana University's work is recognized here," IU Creative Services director Rebecca Salerno said. "They said the best-quality websites had to 'be impressive under the hood,' and demonstrate a strong understanding of audiences, have clear calls to action, and clean and intuitive social media integration and navigation."
Editor Michele Morgan-Dufour said the school created the publication in 2009 to familiarize the community, patrons, alumni and students with the breadth and depth of its offerings.
"Embracing the magazine format bundles information about our six disciplines into an attractive multi-use piece that works across many influence groups and presents the school as a vibrant force in the arts," she said. "Our enrollment, patron contributions and audiences have all increased in the three years since the magazine debuted."
The 2011 issue of Aspire is currently available, and the 2012 issue is expected to be released in August.
The Council for Advancement and Support of Education is the professional organization for university advancement professionals who work in alumni relations, communications, fundraising, marketing and other areas.
According to its website, the Circle of Excellence Awards "acknowledge superior accomplishments that have lasting impact, demonstrate the highest level of professionalism and deliver exceptional results."
