IU Auditorium presents "Jesus Christ Superstar" Feb. 10-11.

The first collaboration between Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice to be performed on the professional stage, Jesus Christ Superstar is one of the most popular and enduring works ever created for the musical theater.

Featuring notable songs that include "Superstar," "Everything's Alright" and "I Don't Know How to Love Him," Jesus Christ Superstar earned five Tony nominations.

Set in two acts, Jesus Christ Superstar tells the story of the final seven days in the life of Jesus of Nazareth. Superstar dramatizes Jesus' entry into Jerusalem, the unrest caused by his preaching and popularity, his betrayal by Judas, the trial before Pontius Pilate and his ultimate crucifixion.

Ted Neeley, who plays Jesus, also headlined the first touring company of the show in 1972 and met his wife while making the Jesus Christ Superstar film -- for which he was nominated for a Golden Globe -- in Israel in the 70s.

"We are excited to welcome back the venerable Ted Neeley to our stage in this classic musical that continues to resonate with today's audiences," said IU Auditorium Director Doug Booher. "This original rock opera is an exhilarating and significant piece of musical theater, as relevant and as timeless as ever."
