June 11, 2011

DES MOINES, Iowa -- Indiana finished action at the NCAA Championships on Saturday, getting a fourth-place finish out of Faith Sherrill in the women's shot put. IU also got an All-America finish in the 4x100m relay, taking seventh. IU finishes the meet with nine All-Americans and a total of nine top-10 finishes in events throughout the meet.

Indiana finished the meet with 11 points on the men's side, which was good for 20th place. The women scored 13 points to finish 23rd.

Sherrill launched a throw of 17.54m (57-6.75) on her fifth throw, moving from sixth in the prelims to fourth on the awards stand. She matches her indoor finish from March with the fourth-place finish and is the 17th shot put All-American in the history of IU's women's program. Monique Riddick took 21st with a heave of 15.81m (51-10.5). Sherrill scored five points for IU.

Sult, Butler, Vaughn and Pipkin are the first All-America 4x100 for Indiana since 1971 and just the third in school history. The group clocked a time of 39.63 for seventh place, running with the handicap of being in lane one. With their school record from the prelims on Wednesday, the group has clocked five sub-40 times this season, a feat that had only been done once by an IU relay coming into the season. The quartet owns six of the top seven times in school history. They scored two points toward the Hoosier cause.

Sarah Pease clocked a time of 10:11.94 for ninth in the women's 3,000m steeplechase. She will be a second-team All-American, capping the career of the Indiana's all-time most accomplished female steeplechaser. Ben Hubers clocked a time of 13:43.06 for ninth in the 5,000 meters. The junior shed more than five seconds off his career best, moving into fourth all-time in the IU record books.

Next up for Indiana track and field are the USA Track and Field Championships in Eugene, Oregon on June 22-25.
